Hunting Carson National Forest

Hunting the Carson National Forest in New Mexico

New Mexico holds 5 national forests consisting of millions of acres of pubic hunting land. These forests are America's Great Outdoors, here to serve the American people. With 1.5 million acres, the Carson National Forest is vast. Elevations rise from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet at Wheeler Peak, the highest in New Mexico.

The Carson forest holds 86,000 acres of wilderness land. The "wilderness" designation means that travel is restricted to foot or horseback and no mechanized equipment is allowed. We generally do not hunt these areas but hunting around the remote wilderness can be a productive tactic.

Regardless of the hunting, this is some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest United States.  1.5 million acres covered by the Carson National Forest. Elevations rise from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet at Wheeler Peak, the highest in New Mexico. Our objective is to maintain that natural beauty
